Google's Acquisition of Motorola Mobility and Its Impact on the Smartphone Industry

On August 15, 2011, Google announced the acquisition of Motorola Mobility for US$12.5 billion, sending a shock wave throughout the Smartphone industry. Google said in the statement that this deal will significantly strengthen the Android ecosystem and that Google will ensure the openness of the Android system while maintaining the independent operation of Motorola Mobility.
