The Implications of Google-Motorola Mobility Acquisition on the Home Media Industry

On August 15, 2011, Google announced its acquisition of Motorola Mobility for US$12.5 billion, under which Google will possess the latter's patent portfolios and production/manufacturing capacity for mobile devices. Being one of three leading set top box manufacturers, Motorola Mobility has a profound influence on the home media market and has gained good market position. The home media devices are likely to trigger a new war between Apple and Google, next to mobile devices.
