The Indian furniture industry is estimated at around Rs 350 billion and is highly fragmented. Around Eighty-five per cent of national production comes from regionally small size firms falls into the unorganized sector and remaining comes from the organized sector comprising of leading manufacturer, importers and dealer/distributors. According to a study by the World Bank, the organized furniture industry is expected to grow by 20 per cent a year and India, Brazil and Russia will witness a boom.

India, due to the shortage of timber resources, is often forced to import wood from the neighboring countries. Other raw materials widely used are rattan, bamboo, steel and silver.
