Beijing Mafang Economic Development Zone
China Knowledge Press, June 2011, Pages: 25
Beijing Mafang Economic Development Zone (Beijing Mafang EDZ) rated “C” by China Knowledge in a research report on China’s industrial real estate published today. The designated area, formerly known as Pinggu Mafang Industrial Zone, was approved as a municipal-level development zone by the Beijing municipal government in 2006. It has an area of 9.1 sq km.
Beijing Mafang EDZ is located southwest of Pinggu District at the intersection of Beijing and Sanhe in Hebei Province. The zone is 6 km from State Highway 102, which runs from Beijing to Shuangcheng in Heilongjiang Province, 10 km from Daqin Railway, which runs from Datong in Shanxi Province to Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province, and 35 km from Beijing Capital International Airport. Miyun-Sanhe Road runs through the zone, while Tianjin Port lies 130 km to the east of the zone.
The EDZ encourages investment in construction materials, pharmaceuticals, electronics and other high-tech industries. By the end of 2010, more than 50 companies had invested in the zone. They generated total revenue of over RMB 1.0 billion in 2010.
Beijing Electrical Control Science Park is located within Beijing Mafang EDZ. A total of RMB 2.8 billion will be invested in the park, which will have an area of 900,000 sq m. The zone started construction in 2008 and will be developed in cooperation with Zhongguancun Science Park and the government of Pinggu District.
Major investors in the science park include Fule Kangda, YFY, BOE Technology, Jile, BBEF, and C&W Technology. Jile Electronics and BOE Technologies launched display production lines in the zone.
Industrial parks rated C are viewed as least attractive. These industrial parks are not recommended for investment. There are 14 municipal level ‘C’ rating industrial parks among 254 ones rated by China Knowledge since 2003. There is requirement for financing to develop its infrastructure, facilities; and even A&P to attract more companies to set up manufacturing plants.
