Wuhan Export Processing Zone

Wuhan Export Processing Zone (Wuhan EPZ) rated “BBB” by China Knowledge in a research report on China’s industrial real estate published today. The EPZ is located inside Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Wuhan ETDZ).

Lying southwest of Wuhan, Wuhan EPZ is one of five export processing zones in central China. It was approved by the State Council in 2001 and has a total area of 2.7 sq km.

Located on the north bank of the Yangtze River, Wuhan EPZ is close to Wuhan Port. It is easily linked to the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, one of the most important national transportation arteries in China. The Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway also go through Wuhan.

Companies inside Wuhan EPZ enjoy tax incentives and convenient customs clearance services; all import and export formalities can be handled on the premises. Public utilities are well facilitated. Inspection, banking, transportation and warehousing are available inside the zone as well.

Wuhan EPZ focuses on the export of electronic products, automobiles and auto parts. In the first seven months of 2008, its total export amounted grew 49.5% year on year to US$765.5 million. In the month of July, exports reached US$ 116.2 million, and exports of electronic products grew 53.9% to US$97.49 million.

TPV Technology Ltd, a well-known electronics producer, was the largest enterprise by export volume in Wuhan EPZ that year. In July 2008, it exported US$69.24 million worth of products.

Industrial parks rated BBB are considered attractive at an average level. They have less-than-adequate investment conditions and may have some flaws. They may be promising industrial parks but there are uncertainties regarding future development. Most of these are industry specific theme park that caters to fewer industries. There are 60 such BBB rating out of 254 national or municipal-level industrial parks where many are seeking to transform or upgrade its facilities to attract new economy industries.
