Chongqing Dazu Industrial Park
China Knowledge Press, June 2011, Pages: 25
Chongqing Dazu Industrial Park (Chongqing Dazu IP) rated “BB” by China Knowledge in a research report on China’s industrial real estate published today. The industrial park was approved and established by the Chongqing municipal government in 2003 as a municipal-level development zone.
Chongqing Dazu IP is located in Dazu County, which is situated in the northwestern part of Chongqing. Dazu County is 80 km from Chongqing’s downtown and 269 km from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Chongqing Dazu IP mainly relies on highways and railways for transportation. The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway and the Chengdu-Chongqing Freeway, which traverse Dazu from west to east, are adjacent to Chongqing Dazu IP.
Dazu County is rich in mineral resources and is a popular tourist destination. The county’s coal reserves amount to 28.3 million tons. The Dazu Rock Carvings, a World Cultural Heritage site, are located in the county.
Chongqing Dazu Park has two subsidiary parks: Longshui Industrial Park, which has an area of 8 sq km, and Youting Industrial Park, which has an area of 4.1 sq km. The park’s pillar industries include hardware manufacturing and auto and motorcycle parts manufacturing. Approximately 174 enterprises have been established in the park.
Within the park, Chori, a Japanese trading giant, and Qingdao Red Star Group, which is a Chinese chemical company, jointly founded Dazu Hongdie Strontium. In 2007, the company produced RMB 400 million worth of strontium. However, due to the company’s heavy pollution, environmental concerns have been raised in this region.
Industrial parks rated BB are considered attractive at a below-average level. Industrial parks with this rating are typically either in the development stage or are lacking certain important elements. There are 50 with BB rating among 254 national and municipal level industrial parks.
