Chongqing Tongnan Industrial Park (Chongqing Tongnan IP) rated “B” by China Knowledge in a research report on China’s industrial real estate published today. The industrial park was approved and established by the Chongqing municipal government in 2003 as a municipal-level development zone.
The industrial park comprises the Northern Zone, which has an area of 8 sq km, and the Southern Zone, which has an area of 7 sq km.
Tongnan County, the home county of Chongqing Tongnan IP, is located in the northwestern part of Chongqing approximately 150 km from both Chongqing’s downtown and Jiangbei International Airport. State Highway 205 runs through the Southern Zone of Chongqing Tongnan IP. The County is rich in water and natural gas resources. The Fu River and the Qiong River traverse the county. It also has natural gas reserves totaling 30 billion cubic meters, or 9.4% of Chongqing’s total. Additionally, Tongnan County is an important production base for organic vegetables, grain and oil, livestock and poultry in Chongqing.
Development plans for Chongqing Tongnan IP anticipate that the park’s total investment will reach RMB 11.7 billion in the period from 2003 to 2020. An estimated 500 enterprises will be set up in the park, and the gross industrial output of the park is expected to reach RMB 30 billion in 2020.
The industrial park’s pillar industries include paper making, chemicals, equipment manufacturing and the processing of agricultural products.
Approximately 20 enterprises have set up businesses in the park. These enterprises include Chongqing Tongnan First Papermaking Factory, Chongqing Wanlilai Chemical, Chongqing Dong’an Machinery Manufacture and Chongqing Weixin Foodstuff.
Chongqing Wanlilai Chemical, which engages mainly in the production of ammonia, currently has an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of ammonia. The total assets of the company amounted to RMB 300 million in 2008. It appraised as one of the nation’s top 50 nitrogen fertilizer producers by China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association.
Industrial parks rated B are viewed as poorly established. Much effort is necessary for the creation of an attractive investment environment in these parks. There are 45 with ‘B’ rating among the 254 national or municipal-level industrial parks located across the country.
