China Knowledge Press, June 2011, Pages: 25
Chongqing Xipeng Aluminum Industrial Zone (Chongqing Xipeng AIZ) rated “BB” by China Knowledge in a research report published today. The zone was approved and established by the Chongqing municipal government in July 2003 as a municipal-level development zone.
Chongqing Xipeng AIZ has a well-developed transportation system. It is 50 km from Jiangbei International Airport. The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway and the Xiangfan-Chongqing Railway pass through the zone, and there are two freight railway stations, Huangqian Railway Station and Tongguanyi Railway Station located within the zone. In addition, the city’s ring road runs along the zone’s western border. Lastly, the Huangqian and Tongguanyi Port Operation Areas are also located in Chongqing Xipeng AIZ.
In 2010, Chongqing Xipeng AIZ’s gross industrial output was RMB 27.6 billion. Approximately 90% of the gross industrial output is produced by its nonferrous metal-processing industry. Nonferrous metal processing, especially aluminum processing, is Chongqing Xipeng AIZ’s pillar industry.
By November 2010, there are approximately 237 enterprises located in the zone. Once the construction of all the projects has been completed, they are expected to realize a total industrial output of RMB 50 billion. Southwest Aluminum (Group), a subsidiary of the Aluminum Corporation of China, is a well-known aluminum enterprise in Chongqing Xipeng AIZ. In 2008, the enterprise produced 555,000 tons of aluminum. Its sales revenue amounted to RMB 13.0 billion and its export value was US$110 million.
Industrial parks rated BB are considered attractive at a below-average level. Industrial parks with this rating are typically either in the development stage or are lacking certain important elements. There are 50 with BB rating among 254 national and municipal level industrial parks.
