Chongqing Yongchuan Industrial Park (Chongqing Yongchuan IP) rated “BB” by China Knowledge in a research report published today. The industrial park was approved and established by the Chongqing municipal government in 2002 as a municipal-level development zone.
There are three subsidiary parks, namely, Da’an Industrial Park, Zhongshan Industrial Park and Gangqiao Industrial Park, under the administration of Chongqing Yongchuan IP.
Chongqing Yongchuan IP has a convenient transportation system. The Chengdu-Chongqing Freeway runs through Da’an Industrial Park, while the Chengdu-Chongqing Railway and the Yongchuan-Luzhou Express Highway traverse Zhongshan Industrial Park and Gangqiao Industrial Park.
The Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, which handled 11.1 million passengers and ranked 10th in terms of passenger throughput in China in 2008, is within a one-hour drive of Zhongshan Industrial Park. Additionally, Gangqiao Industrial Park is adjacent to Yongchuan River Port, which is one of Chongqing’s transportation hubs. Currently, the Yongchuan River Port is under construction. According to development plans, the port is expected to have an annual handling capacity of between 12 million tons and 15 million tons upon completion in 2011.
Yongchuan District, the home district of Chongqing Yongchuan IP, is located in the western part of Chongqing 58 km from downtown. Yongchuan District is rich in mineral resources and is a popular tourist destination. It is one of the key coal-producing regions in China. Chongqing Wild Zoo, a scenic spot with a national-level AAAA rating, is located in the district.
The industrial park’s pillar industries include equipment manufacturing, textiles, food processing, energy, chemicals, metallurgy and building materials. Large enterprises in these industries include Chongqing Haitong Machinery Manufacture Group, Chongqing Jinfeng Silk (Group), Chongqing Leimeng Flavor & Fragrance, Chongqing Jiulong Electric Power, Chongqing Wanjiang Aluminum, and Chongqing Tenglu Steel Structure Engineering. Approximately 86 enterprises in total have set up businesses in the park.
One of the park’s investors, Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It is principally engaged in the manufacture and sale of paper and invested RMB 10 billion in Gangqiao Industrial Park in December 2005 to build a plant for craft paper, high-end household paper and cultural paper. The plant currently has an annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons of paper.
Industrial parks rated BB are considered attractive at a below-average level. Industrial parks with this rating are typically either in the development stage or are lacking certain important elements. There are 50 with BB rating among 254 national and municipal level industrial parks.
