Beihai Export Processing Zone (Beihai EPZ) rated “C” by China Knowledge in a research report published today. Approved by the State Council, the export-processing zone was established in March 2003 with a total area of 1.5 sq km. Among all the zones in West China, it is the nearest export-processing zone to ASEAN countries.

Beihai EPZ is located in the western part of Beihai, next to Beihai Port, 3 km from the heart of the city. It is situated just 17 km from Nanning-Beihai Expressway, which connects Beihai with Guilin, Chongqing, Guangzhou and other Chinese cities.

In addition, Beihai EPZ adjoins inbound railway and marshaling stations is 27 km from Fucheng Airport, which is one of the three largest airports in Guangxi. There are more than 20 air routes leading to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities.

Last year, the total export and import value of Beihai EPZ was US$1.07 billion, up 320% compared to the same period of the previous year, and accounting for 53% of city’s total.

As of the end of June 2010, there were more then 30 registered enterprises in Beihai EPZ. These enterprises are mainly engaged in electronic technology, food processing, new materials and biopharmaceuticals.

Industrial parks rated C are viewed as least attractive. These industrial parks are not recommended for investment. There are 14 municipal level ‘C’ rating industrial parks among 254 rated by China Knowledge since 2003. There is requirement for financing to develop its infrastructure, facilities; and even A&P to attract more companies to set up manufacturing plants.
