China Knowledge Press, June 2011, Pages: 25
Baotou National Rare-earth High-tech Industrial Development Zone (Baotou National Rare-earth HTIDZ) rated “BBB” by China Knowledge in a research report published today. Located in Baotou, the largest industrial city in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the High-tech Industrial Development Zone was established in November 1990, and approved by the State Council in November 1992 as a state-level development zone.
The zone has a well-developed transportation network; it is a mere 6 km from the train station and a further 16 km from Baotou Erliban Airport.
In 2010, the GDP of the zone amounted to RMB 22.74 billion, accounting for 9.2% of city’s total. As of the end of 2010, the zone had 2476 registered enterprises, among which, 54 are high-tech enterprises, accounting for 93% of city’s total.
The three major industries are rare earth metals, aluminum bronze and electrical and mechanical-manufacturing. The total industrial output of these three industries accounted for about three-quarters of the total of that from the enterprises of the designated size and above in the city.
Last year, the output of rare-earth permanent magnet material accounted for 7% of China’s total, while output of hydrogen storage material and polishing material accounted for over 10% and 30% of the country’s totals, respectively.
Industrial parks rated BBB are considered attractive at an average level. They have less-than-adequate investment conditions and may have some flaws. They may be promising industrial parks but there are uncertainties regarding future development. Most of these are industry specific theme park that caters to fewer industries. There are 60 such BBB rating out of 254 national or municipal-level industrial parks where many are seeking to transform or upgrade its facilities to attract new economy industries.
