Worldwide smartphone shipment forecast by region to 2015

Smartphone shipments totalled 302m units in 2010. Whilst this is considerable, we project that smartphone shipments worldwide will rise more than threefold by the end of 2015, to reach 948m – an increase of +26% CAGR. We project that whilst smartphone shipments to North America will increase by +17% CAGR from 2010 to 2015, shipments to Western Europe will increase by +23%, and shipments to Asia Pacific (incl. Japan) by +33% CAGR.
In terms of operating systems, we estimate that Android smartphones will continue to have the greatest market share in 2015, shipping 415m units, with Windows Phone 7/Windows Mobile taking a 20% share.
