The Evolving Use Cases for Bluetooth in the Car
SBD, Dec 2009
Although most consumers still view Bluetooth as a single technology that their device either has or does not have, it is in fact a family of standards and profiles. Not all devices are fitted with all profiles, and even the implementation of the same standard can vary significantly between different suppliers. As vehicle manufacturers extend the fitment and functionality of in-car Bluetooth systems, they continue to face the same usability and compatibility issues that disrupted the consumer experience during the early phases of Bluetooth introduction.
This report analyses the new use cases for Bluetooth in the car, and identifies the potential stumbling blocks that vehicle manufacturers may face in implementing the necessary profiles.
