This report focuses on asbestos market research in the CIS and forecast its development. The report consists of eight chapters of 120 pages, 50 figures, 46 tables and 2 Annexes.

In the first chapter of the report the condition of the world market of asbestos is described. The production of asbestos resources by various countries is given, and the average prices for asbestos in the period from 2000 to 2009 is featured.

The second chapter describes the deposits of asbestos in the CIS countries and their reserves, and also provides a map of the largest deposits of asbestos in the CIS.

The third chapter is devoted to the extraction and production of asbestos. This section describes the quality requirements for asbestos-containing products and their implementation in various enterprises. It also shows the statistics for asbestos in the CIS countries from 1997-2009.

The fourth chapter contains information about the current position of the largest producers of asbestos in Russia and Kazakhstan - including production capacities, product range and business development plans; and the volume of consumption by domestic and foreign buyers.

In the fifth chapter of the study, data from the Federal Customs Service of Russia on foreign trade operations in asbestos in 1997-2009, the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Statistics for 1997-2009, and the State Customs Service of Ukraine for 2000-2009 has been analyzed.

The sixth chapter is devoted to a review of prices for Russian asbestos: including domestic prices and the export prices for asbestos-containing products produced in Russia. For comparison, the price policies of Russian manufacturers of asbestos are also given.

In the seventh chapter, devoted to asbestos consumption in Russia, the supply-demand balance of the product during the period of 2000-2009 is given, consumption of asbestos in the country is estimated, and the sectoral structure of consumption of asbestos in Russia is shown. This chapter also describes the position of the asbestos-cement industry of Russia - which governs the demand for asbestos resources.

In the final and eighth chapter of the report forecasts of production of asbestos in the CIS countries and consumption of asbestos in Russia for the period up to 2015 are presented.

In the Annexes the contact data of producers and consumers of asbestos in Russia are provided.

This study is the result of desk-based research. Sources of information include the FSGS (Federal Customs Service of Russia), official railage statistics of JSC Russian Railways, Republic of Kazakhstan Agency of Statistics, State Customs Service of Ukraine, the U.S. Geological Survey, the sectoral and regional press, annual and quarterly reports of companies, as well as web-sites of enterprise-producers of asbestos.
