Construction output will moderate significantly in 2011 continues to play out. The latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) lends further support to this view, indicating that output fell by 1.4% in Q211 compared to the same period in 2010. This data represents the third consecutive quarter of negative year-on-year (y-o-y) growth for the construction sector and reinforces our view that having recorded an impressive 7.2% growth in FY2010, sector growth over the medium-term will be considerably more muted.

We are therefore forecasting that conditions will moderate significantly between 2011 and 2015, with growth to average 1.46% year-on-year (y-o-y) over this period. Our forecast for 2011 and 2012 remains largely unchanged, with the sector averaging around 1% real growth y-o-y.
