Global oil demand managed to increase in 2010; as the slump in oil demand from OECD countries were outwitted by the increase in consumption in the Asia-Pacific region. Supply also remained volatile because of Libyan unrest followed by the meeting held in 2011 where OPEC members were mutually not able to decide on production quotas. In last one year the WT crude prices also witnessed high volatility, it traded in the range of $75 to $113 per barrel.

The report gives valuable insight of the industry encompassing the basics of crude oil, its characteristics, uses and reserve estimation methods. A detailed discussion on various stages of exploration and production chain along with types of offshore rigs is also provided. Critical insights about the global and domestic supply-demand situation are provided. The report has a dedicated section for Infrastructure which deals extensively with global tanker market, domestic crude oil pipelines and India’s import policy. The policies and regulation section, apart from providing the current regulatory structure, also includes extensive analysis of India’s various production sharing regime and its comparison with global practices. The pricing section discusses historic and current crude oil pricing mechanism along with very useful pricing data. The company section provides detailed profiles of key players in the industry with major portion of revenues derived from production and/or distribution of natural gas.

The report provides CARE Research’s forecasts on global oil supply, demand and pricing till 2011-12. Furthermore, CARE Research has gone into minute details of more than 230 global upstream projects to build its upstream project database.
