Search and placement is where agencies recruit workers on behalf of clients, with these workers going on to become employees of the client. The market value is the total turnover of agencies from provision of these services. Services such as employee leasing and independent contracting are not included. Market volumes refer to the average number of temporary agency employees working in a given year, on a full-time-equivalent (FTE) basis. This metric is obtained by dividing the total number of payable hours worked by such employees during the year by the average number of hours worked by a single full-time employee. Search and placement volumes are not included. Segmentation is by volume, and refers to the percentage of temporary agency workers (as FTEs) employed in three broad occupational sectors. Services and administration includes clerical and administrative work, business services such as accountancy, and roles in medical, educational, and othe services.
