A dramatic average price increase of nearly PLN2.00 (per pack of 20) significantly limited the demand for legally sold cigarettes. Prices in 2014 were hardly affordable for a large share of heavy smokers in Poland. The share of expenditure on cigarettes is high in terms of personal consumer incomes, which are on average 3-4-times lower than in Western Europe. As a result, the average price of a pack of cigarettes was approximately 0.6% of the average monthly salary in Poland.
