Cigarettes in Poland remains a tobacco category which is heavily influenced by legislation, specifically regular tax increases. Taxes on cigarettes were raised by the Polish government in January 2011 and again in January 2012. During 2011, the new excise tax levied on cigarettes in Poland included a fixed tax of PLN158.36 per 1,000 sticks, an increase on the PLN146.83 per 1,000 sticks levied in 2010, as well as an ad valorem excise of 31.41%, a figure which has remained unchanged since 2009.
