Abstract
On Aug. 24, German business confidence once again fell more than economists forecast in August, according to the Munich-based Ifo Institute survey. The Ifo business climate index, based on a survey of 7,000 executives, declined to 108.7, the lowest since June 2010, from 112.9 in July. Economists forecasted a decline to 111 (see chart 1). Ifo's gauge of the current situation declined to 118.1 from 121.4 in July, while an index measuring executives' expectations slipped further to 100 from 105 in the previous month. Although investor confidence has continued to slide since July, the index still remains high in relation to historical levels over the past three years.
