Abstract NY -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 9/2/98 -- Standard & Poor's today placed its ratings of Bankers Trust Corp. and units on CreditWatch with negative implications. Standard & Poor's affirmed its `A-1' short-term counterparty credit ratings of selected operating bank subsidiaries (see list). These ratings are not placed on CreditWatch. The CreditWatch placement is in light of turbulence in emerging markets and weakness in other high-risk markets upon which the bank is dependent for a substantial portion of its earnings. Recently announced trading losses related to Russian exposure are one-time hits that are not in themselves material to the long-term health of the bank.
