BULLETIN: Preliminary U.S. Ruling to Cut Lumber Duties Won't Result In Immediate Rating Action Jun 04

Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) June 4, 2004--The preliminary determination by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to substantially lower the combined countervailing and antidumping duties on lumber imported into the U.S. from Canada, if adopted, would be a positive development for companies with significant Canadian lumber production or log sales to Canadian lumber manufacturers, but will result in no rating actions at this time. Affected companies include Weyerhaeuser Co. (BBB/Negative/A-3), Tembec Inc. (BB-/Stable/--), Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. (BB/Negative/--), Pope & Talbot Inc. (BB/Negative/--), West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. (BBB/Stable/--), TimberWest Forest Corp. (BB+/Stable/--), Millar Western Forest Products Ltd. (B+/Stable/--), and Riverside Forest Products Ltd. (B+/Stable/--).
