Competitive pressures in the global automotive industry look set to intensify in 2007. In the key, but saturated North American, European, and Japanese markets, sales could be softer than 2006, further fueling competition for market share. Industry growth prospects are much more favorable in the emerging Asian markets of China and India, but with competition in the region also heating up, this will not offset the long-term problems many international automakers are experiencing in mature markets.
