Abstract
Brazil has vaulted into the global spotlight in recent years, and not just because it'll host the World Cup in 2014 and Olympics in 2016. Along with its newfound prestige has come a spurt in economic growth, which has averaged nearly 5% annually in recent years?enough to bump up 30 million Brazilians into the middle class and thus provide them access to banking services and consumer credit, nearly doubling the consumer credit to GDP ratio since 2001.
