Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) April 8, 2005--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that it affirmed its 'BB-/B' foreign currency and 'BB' local currency counterparty credit ratings on Banco do Brasil S.A. The outlook is stable. The local currency rating on Banco do Brasil S.A. reflects the direct exposure to sovereign credit risk in the form of marketable securities; Standard & Poor's assessment of high economic risks within the Brazilian banking industry; as well as a still-weak intrinsic quality of the bank's capital base (although this has been improving consistently). On the positive side, the rating incorporates the firm commitment and support demonstrated by the Federative Republic of Brazil; the competitiveness by Banco do Brasil in private sector-related operations...
