Pohjola Bank PLC Ratings Affirmed At 'AA-/A-1+' On Bank Criteria Change; Outlook Stable Dec 11

Following a review under Standard & Poor's revised bank criteria (published Nov. 9, 2011), we have affirmed our 'AA-' long-term and 'A-1+' short-term counterparty credit ratings on Pohjola Bank PLC. The outlook is stable. The ratings reflect the bank's strong business position, strong capital and earnings, adequate risk position, average funding, and adequate liquidity. We consider Pohjola Bank to have high systemic importance in Finland, which we classify as supportive, and accordingly add one notch of uplift above the bank's stand-alone credit profile. The ratings are not directly affected by our recent decision to place the Republic of Finland on Creditwatch with negative implications.
