Abstract The ratings on Banco de Bogot- S.A. reflect a strong franchise value, manageable asset quality measures considering the prevailing adverse operating environment, and reasonable profitability. Credit quality, however, is constrained by the poor economic environment prevailing in Colombia. In spite of heightened competition, Banco de Bogot- has successfully managed not only to maintain its good market position and clients' recognition, but also to increase its business volume. Of particular interest is the bank's ability to attract low-cost funds from depositors in a flight to quality. Its reported volume of nonperforming loans (NPLs) and past-due loans is still manageable, but total nonperforming assets (including restructured loans and foreclosed property) is high.
