Intraday Economic News: Initial Jobless Claims Fall To 381,000 Dec 11

U.S. initial jobless claims fell 23,000 to 381,000 in the week ended Dec. 3, which was much better than the 399,000 consensus expectation, though holiday distortions explain some of the decline. The four-week moving average is down 3,000 to 393,250, still below the 400,000 threshold that indicates the jobs market is moving away from recession territory. Continuing claims fell 174,000 to 3.583 million in the week ended Nov. 26, though after the prior week was upwardly revised to 3.757 million from 3.74 million previously reported. Although seasonal adjustments can be difficult around the holiday season, the report, together with upbeat jobs data last week, will help reduce market worries that the U.S. recovery is losing steam....
