Abstract
NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) Oct. 14, 2002--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that it assigned its single-'A'-minus long-term and 'A-2' short-term counterparty credit and CD ratings to FirstCaribbean International Bank Ltd. (FirstCaribbean). The outlook is stable. The ratings on FirstCaribbean are underpinned by its regional infrastructure, diversification, and strong market share in the Caribbean; the track record posted by its predecessor institutions; and its solid financial condition. FirstCaribbean's financial flexibility, including its highly liquid balance sheet and good opportunities to access international markets, also supports the ratings. The ratings also consider the operating support received from both U.K.-based Barclays Bank PLC (AA/Stable/A-1+) and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (A+/Stable/A-1), FirstCaribbean's main shareholders.
