Ameren's subsidiaries include rate regulated utilities Ameren Illinois and Ameren Missouri, and merchant energy company AmerenEnergy Generating Co. (GenCo.) AI's excellent business risk profile reflects its lower-risk pure transmission and distribution (T&D) operations. The company serves about 1.2 million electric customers and 813,000 gas customers in central and southern Illinois, regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission. Additionally, the company's electric transmission lines, which constitute about 13% of the company's total rate base and are regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, provide some added diversification.
