Research Update: Hungarian MKB Bank Public Information Rating Lowered To 'Bpi' From 'BBpi' On Bank Criteria Change Dec 11

Abstract
Following a review of Hungary-based MKB Bank ZRT (MKB) under Standard & Poor's revised bank criteria (published on Nov. 9, 2011), we have lowered our unsolicited public information (pi) rating on the bank to 'Bpi' from 'BBpi'. Our pi rating on MKB reflects our 'bb' anchor for a commercial bank operating predominantly in Hungary, as well as our view that MKB's business position, funding, and liquidity are neutral for the rating, while its capital and earnings and risk position are negative rating factors. We consider MKB to be a bank with high systemic importance in a supportive country, Hungary.
