Research Update: New York Community Bancorp Inc. And Operating Subsidiary Ratings Affirmed; Outlook Remains Stable Dec 11

Following a review of New York Community Bancorp (NYB) under Standard & Poor's revised bank criteria (published on Nov. 9, 2011), we have affirmed our 'BBB-' long-term rating on NYB and our 'BBB' rating on its main bank subsidiary. The outlook on both entities remains stable. Our ratings on NYB reflect the company's moderate business position, adequate capital, and adequate risk position compared with other banks in the U.S. We expect NYB to remain concentrated in multifamily lending while pursuing retail branch acquisitions. As we previously announced, on Dec. 13, 2011, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services affirmed its 'BBB-' issuer credit rating on New York Community Bancorp (NYB).
