Bulletin: Southwest Airlines Co. Ratings Are Unaffected By The Company's New Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft Order Dec 11

Abstract NEW YORK (Standard & Poor's) Dec. 13, 2011--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that Texas-based Southwest Airlines Co.'s (BBB-/Stable/--) new, 150-aircraft order does not affect the ratings or outlook on the company. Southwest's order makes it the launch customer for Boeing Co.'s new 737 MAX aircraft, a variation of the 737 aircraft that makes up most of Southwest's aircraft fleet. Southwest expects to take delivery of the first aircraft in 2017. The new MAX engine is expected to reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions by an additional 10%-11% over today's most fuel-efficient aircraft and thus should result in reduced operating costs.
