Abstract
Latin American consumer products companies have enjoyed a stable year, even through stubbornly high input costs and weakening, though still positive, consumer demand compared with 2010 growth rates. But, in Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' view, the credit quality for the speculative-grade companies is likely to begin to fade once the New Year's Eve fireworks have burned away. We have a stable outlook on 69% of our rated universe of 32 companies in the sector. However, our overall credit outlook on these companies is slightly negative compared with 2011, on weakening demand, squeezed export markets, and persistent inflation pressures.
