Abstract
Continued difficult operating and credit market conditions have weighed heavily on many issuers' liquidity positions. Although some sectors in consumer products are better positioned to weather the credit market turmoil, particularly in consumer staples such as food, beverage, and personal care, there is evidence in these sectors of consumers altering their purchasing channel of choice, and/or purchasing value-oriented products. Sectors more discretionary in nature, such as apparel and bedding, have experienced greater operating difficulties and covenant compliance issues, which has led to multiple negative rating actions.
