Abstract
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' outlook for credit quality in the U.S. consumer products sector is somewhat less favorable in 2011 compared with 2010. We believe there will be fewer upgrades in 2011, given the continuing slow economic recovery and our expectation that rising commodity costs may crimp margins and growth opportunities for companies in all rating categories. In addition, we are seeing an increase in shareholder rewards. In the first half of 2011, downgrades outnumbered upgrades by a ratio of 1.36x, comparable to a 1.07x ratio for the year-ago period.
