Abstract
The rating assigned to Bancolombia takes into consideration asset quality and profitability problems the bank experienced over several years, similar to those experienced by other banks in Colombia, and from which the bank began to recover in 2000. It also reflects the importance of the bank in the Colombian banking system as the largest bank in terms of assets and deposits. Even as results return to more normal levels, the rating will remain constrained by Colombia's risky economic and political environment.
