Standard & Poor's Ratings Services bases its ratings on The Bank of East Asia Ltd. (BEA) on the bank's "adequate" business position, "adequate" capital and earnings, "adequate" risk position, "average" funding, and "adequate" liquidity, as defined under our criteria. BEA's stand-alone credit profile (SACP) is 'bbb+'. Our bank criteria use the BICRA economic risk and industry risk scores to determine a bank's anchor, the starting point in assigning an issuer credit rating. The anchor for a commercial bank operating only in the Hong Kong is 'a-'.
