Abstract
On Nov. 17, 2011, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services revised its outlook on the long-term sovereign rating on Aruba to stable from negative and affirmed its 'A-/A-2' rating. Standard & Poor's 'A-' transfer and convertibility assessment was unchanged. Standard & Poor's sovereign rating analyst for Aruba, Joydeep Mukherji, discusses the reasons for the change in outlook, as well as economic and political events on the island that have an impact on its sovereign rating. The change in outlook reflects recent reforms to address shortfalls in Aruba's pension system and health care agency, which should strengthen public finances over the long term, reducing future fiscal pressures.
