Trends for global transportation equipment leasing sectors mirror those of global economy and world trade, according to a panel on global transportation equipment leasing, hosted by Standard & Poor's Ratings Services. The panelists believe that the leasing sectors (aircraft, marine cargo containers, and railcars) face uncertainty regarding a sustained recovery in operating performance as we ring in 2012. Sovereign debt issues in Europe and the prospect of cooling emerging market economies such as China, weigh on the sectors. Since the leasing businesses are capital intensive, how they deal with the reduction in available funding sources caused by the retrenching of European banks will be key in 2012.
