Standard & Poor's Ratings Services' ratings on Milwaukee, Wisc.-based Rockwell Automation Inc. reflect the company's strong business profile, characterized by leading and sustainable competitive positions in diverse, but cyclical, markets. The ratings also reflect the company's modest financial risk profile, arising from conservative financial policies. Pension obligations and a significant weakening in credit measures in the recent downturn partly offset the effect of these policies, however. Rockwell is a leading provider of industrial automation products and solutions. Trends in the industrial sector, such as the outlook for industrial equipment spending, factory orders, and capacity utilization across a variety of industries, largely drive demand for the company's products.
