Abstract
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services evaluates exploration and production (E&P) companies based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of company-specific factors that includes both operating and financial performance. This analysis forms the foundation of our assessment of an issuer's business risk and financial risk profiles, which, in turn, provide the basis for formulating our corporate credit rating. Key aspects of our analysis include our evaluation of E&P companies' relative competitive position, which includes our assessment of reserves (size, quality, reserve life), diversity (both geographic and product), reserve replacement (drill bit and all-in), and cost structure.
