Abstract NY -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 5/1/96 -- Standard & Poor's today has affirmed its double-`A' claims-paying ability rating of American States Intercompany Pool (ASIG) and has removed the rating from CreditWatch, where it was placed March 15, 1996. The affirmation is based on ASIG's strong capitalization, very good underwriting results, and adequate reserves. Prospectively, Standard & Poor's believes the company may find it difficult to balance its growth objectives with its desire to maintain its currently strong operating results. Since initiating its first restructuring efforts in 1991, ASIG's results have steadily improved; however, an expense overhang has dampened further bottom line improvement to date.
