Abstract In the first quarter of 2003, Standard & Poor's assigned ratings to 31 domestic and offshore term Australian asset-backed transactions. This represents an increase of 72% on the number of transactions rated in the first quarter of 2002, and an increase of 41% on the number of transactions rated in the fourth quarter of 2002. Issuance volume for the first quarter 2003 was A$10.5 billion (US$6.3 billion), representing a 13.1% decrease on the volume of term securities issued in the first quarter of 2002, and an increase of 10.3% on the volume of term securities issued in the fourth quarter of 2002.
