Abstract
Corporate credit rating: A-/Watch Neg/A-2 Standard & Poor's today said that the bid by Italenergia SpA for Montedison SpA (not rated) and Edison SpA should not affect Edison's ratings nor its CreditWatch placement with negative implications (refer to the related press release issued on March 19, 2001). Montedison owns 61% of Edison. Italenergia is about 40%-owned by Fiat SpA (--/--/A-3), 18% by Electricit- de France (AA+/Negative/A-1+), and the balance is jointly owned by a group of financial institutions. The potential ownership changes add to the uncertainty facing Edison, which is one of the bidders for the electricity generating assets being sold off by Enel SpA (A+/Stable/A-1)....
