Optimism Remains For The Australian And New Zealand Life Insurance Sectors Jun 10

Abstract We continue to view the Australian and New Zealand life insurance industries as stable, an outlook underpinned by their structural robustness. In Australia, in particular, life companies benefit from: strong and supportive regulation; ownership by generally highly rated parents; underinsurance of life-risk products; and a compulsory superannuation savings scheme. Moreover, Australian life companies have less guaranteed-return products and a lower investment allocation to equities compared with some international peers.
