Abstract Israeli banks currently face challenges with regard to the ongoing political situation's effect on the domestic economy and ownership considerations. Standard & Poor's considers the major banks to be broadly resilient to their constrained operating environment, however, and well placed to grow and adapt to Israel's position in the global market and greater customer sophistication. At this stage, the impact to the banking system from, primarily, the ongoing domestic disruption and economic slowdown has been within current ratings expectations. In general, banks are reporting higher nonperforming assets, higher provisions, and lower bottom-line profitability, with some banks reporting operating losses.
