Abstract The U.S. health care industry enters 2012 with a twofold mission. Even as insurers, hospitals, nursing homes, drug makers, and medical device manufacturers strive to maintain or improve their near-term profits and credit quality, they must also prepare for the full implementation of national health care reform in two years, which could add some 30 million new patients to the health care system.
