Abstract
Industrial output in the eurozone fell 0.9% in September from the previous month, the largest drop in 18 months, likely related to the area's decelerating GDP growth. According to the latest industry release from Eurostat, on Nov. 12, year-over-year industrial production increased 5.9% in September, below expectations of 7.1% and the previous month's growth of 8.4% (see chart 1). Although production growth slowed, it remains positive, fueled to a large extent by the booming industrial activity in Germany. U.K. industrial production also declined slightly in September. Although the U.K. has been holding up better than the eurozone in this regard, its production growth trend line has remained relatively flat since April of this year (see chart 2).
