Abstract MELBOURNE (Standard & Poor's CreditWire) April 5, 2001--Standard & Poor's today affirmed its triple-'A' long-term local currency rating, double-'A'-plus long-term foreign currency rating, and 'A-1'-plus short-term credit ratings on Australian Postal Corp. (Post). The outlook remains stable. The ratings reflect Post's dominant market position, its extremely strong financial position, its diversified business portfolio, and its continued monopoly in the provision of some postal services in Australia. Post's government ownership imposes some financial burdens on the corporation, such as special dividend payouts in the past, and the requirement to absorb in the standard letter rates the goods and services tax introduced in fiscal 2001.
