Bulletin: Ratings On Japan?s Local and Regional Governments Unaffected By April 10 Election Results Apr 11

Abstract TOKYO (Standard & Poor's) April 11, 2011--Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today that gubernatorial elections held in Tokyo and Sagamihara and parliamentary elections in Aichi Prefecture on April 10, 2011, will not affect the ratings on the respective entities. Shintaro Ishihara won his fourth victory in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's (AA-/Stable/-) gubernatorial election; thus, we assume the fiscal discipline he demonstrated during previous tenures will continue. We are of the same view regarding the finances of the City of Sagamihara (AA-/Stable/A-1+), where Toshio Kayama won his second term. In Aichi Prefecture (AA-/Stable/A-1+), the opposition Liberal Democratic Party and Democratic Party of Japan again won the majority of seats in the local Aichi legislature.
